It's that time of year again!!! I guess it's become an annual thing for me. My friend Rebecca Barber sends me an email asking me to give away an entry to the Stroehmann Philly Back On My Feet 5 Miler and of course I say yes. How could you not want to be involved with an organization like BOMF?!
As I've mentioned the past couple of years that I have done the giveaway, I have not had an opportunity to do runs with the group. I live just outside the city and with two kids, work and a runner husband, I can't make early morning group runs in the city. But this past year my sister, Cindy, has joined the group and loves it. For those still unfamiliar with this amazing group, their mission is:
Back on My Feet combats homelessness through the power of running, community support, and essential employment and housing resources.
I'm going to go ahead and use the description from the BOMF website because I think it paints a great picture of how running can help people to accomplish many things in their life:
Back on My Feet seeks to revolutionize the way our society approaches homelessness. Our unique running-based model demonstrates that if you first restore confidence, strength, and self-esteem, individuals are better equipped to tackle the road ahead and move toward jobs, homes, and new lives.
I have heard many incredible success stories through not only Rebecca but many other runners that take part in the group runs now including my sister. Even if you can't participate in the runs just like I can't, you can still be part of helping the group. They are always collecting shoes at various events such as the Rocky 50K and there are races that they host to raise money for the organization such as upcoming Philly BOMF 5 miler.

Now to the race details. This year's 5 miler takes place on Saturday March 26th, 8 AM. The start/finish area is on MLK/West River drive by the Art Musuem area. I have not had the opportunity to run this race personally yet as the past few years I have run Ocean Drive Marathon and it usually falls on the same weekend. This year however I am not doing OD so it will be my first BOMF 5 miler and I'm super excited. The course offers flat sections with a challenging hill and some fun downhill, sure to be a great race. I'm really looking forward to it.
I'll be running my contest for a free entry starting today February 6th until next Saturday February 13th at midnight. You can enter via the rafflecopter below. And if you don't win, it's only $32 to register AND for only a few extra $, you can also send a race shirt to a BOMF member! ALSO, if you are short on $ and tall on race shirts, opt out of the race shirt and register for only $25!!! Hurry because early bird pricing ends Feb 15th which is also the last day to get a race t-shirt. I hope to see you all there!!
