The Perfectly Isotonic Drink

Thank You Hoist and Bibrave!
A couple of weeks ago the kind people at Hoist, sent me a box full of their drink. Prior to receiving the notice from Bibrave that they were partnering with this company, I had never heard of Hoist.

So like me, you are wondering what the heck is this stuff?!
Well as I found out, Hoist is the perfectly Isotonic drink.

Ummm yeah ok, so what the heck does that mean?!
Isotonic means that the electrolyte and carbohydrate levels in Hoist are very similar to those in your body.

And why is that important in a sports drink?
Being isotonic allows your body to absorb the nutrients and electroytes faster than even water. Because most other drinks are different than your body which forces your body to actually add water to your stomach in order to digest them. Your body actually has to use time, energy and your own water before getting any benefit from the drink. With Hoist your body starts benefitting immediately from the first sip, no extra work required.

  So how does it taste?
There are 3 flavors: Starfruit, Strawberry Lemonade(SL)and Orange. I have not had the opportunity to try the orange yet since my box had Starfruit and Strawberry Lemonade. Both the Starfruit and SL have very strong, somewhat tart flavors. I'm not a huge fan of strong, flavored drinks in general however I did really enjoy the SL, sorry starfruit! ;-) I was also surprised to find that despite the very strong taste while drinking, there was no weird after taste and I did not still feel thirsty after drinking even when I drank a Hoist right after a run. Normally when I am super thirsty after a run and I drink a flavored sports drink, I still feel very thirsty. Usually only water takes away the thirst, but Hoist was able to do it as well. I'm sure this has to do with the Isotonic makeup of the drink as well as the fact that there is no high fructose corn syrup or added colors.

Where do I buy it?
Hoist is just getting started so currently it's only available in stores in Ohio, some parts of Texas and on Amazon. It does sell out quickly, so if you want some, stock up!

Overall Opinion
I like that Hoist does not have artificial colors, high fructose corn syrup or any of those bad sugary things. I also like that they have actually created a drink that is truly different. Even though I don't tend to enjoy drinks with strong flavors, I will drink Hoist to hydrate after a run since it doesn't leave me thirty or a weird taste in my mouth. I think Hoist is a good product produced by a nice company. I have really enjoyed my interactions with them so far. The only negative is that it can be hard to get a hold of but that's a normal part of being a small company getting started. And it's a good thing for them that they keep running out!
